What is the Purpose of public schools?

  Education forms a big part of how we grow individually and the chances of becoming successful. Someone who has had a better eduaction in a better and more wealthier town with public schools is more likely to become more succesful than someone who lives in a unlweathier town who couldn't attend a public school. Many times students ask their teachers questions like, " what is the point of coming to school", " are we ever going to need this in the future?". Truth is that they will eventually need what they are learning. Adding subtracting reading are all basic things that parents teach but children do gain more practice and better understanding at school. So, to answer the students question, there actually is a purpose to school, specially public schools. If there wasnt any public schools a lot of childrens wouldn't have an affordable place to learn or be even be able to have an education. This is because a lot of families live off a tight budget and they wouldnt be able to offer a private school or private education for their children. Why is why the the purpose of Public Schools is to make sure that all children have a way to be educated. Public schools offers an educaton to all children regardless to their race, culture or social class. A public school is the way in which the government make sure that all children are exposed to the same possibility of having an education that will later lead them to a successful life, college and job wise.

    Public schools are the best option for a large percentage of the world, due to poverty, etc. As the years have progressed from generation to generation, the schools have done a good job of teaching kids the basics but have declined in teaching them real-life skills. When my parents were in school they were taught cursive, and home eco was mandatory. I think schools should bring back more lifestyle skills because those along with basic skills are what kids will really need for the future.

      I agree with you! I also think that schools should be teaching lifestyle skills to the students, like you said this is also something that forms part of a students education but also in their daily life. Lifestyle skills will not only help them as kids but it is something that will stick with them as they grow.

    You made such a good point. I actually did not think about the struggle that many children have to go through to succeed in their education even though they are being schooled. Its very disappointing and sad to think that many students are having a harder time in school because they do not have access to such things. Luckily many schools are helping by providing a certain amount of technology like Ipads and Laptops.

  Why teach?      Hi! my name is Mariela and this is my third year at Texas state. From my past teachers I can tell that teaching is a job that takes heart and passion. Beign a teacher has always been my dream job ever since I was a kid. I have a lot memories of when I was younger where I would play school with my cousins and somehow I was always the teacher. Not only did I use to play school but even in elementary school, as a 5th grader I would always volunteer to help younger levels. I was a lonely child for about 10 years and when my brother came around I felt as of I had to be a role model for him. Now that he's in school he reaches out to me when he doesnt understand his homework. Its such a good feeling when im explaing to him, because most of the time Im able to tell that he actually did gain a greater understanding.     Im hoping to become an Elementary teacher and teacher 1st or 2nd grade. What is worth learning?

 It is said that we go to school to learn and to educate ourselves for a brighter future and better job. But how much of this is true? How are we expected to educate ourselves if the curriculums are limiting our learning.To answer the compelling question, "What is worth learning?" aside from what the curriculums say we should learn I believe that everything is worth learning. For example, when it comes to black history as mentioned on the null curriculum, its very much restricted and it is being taught one sided. Both teachers and students should be exposed to every side of history in order to grow their knowledge.
