Is schooling equitable?
The question “Is schooling Equitable?” is asking if schools are fair and/or equal. There is a lot of things that could be argued within this topic but I personally believe that although many things have changed over the years; schools are still not equal. In the past, schooling and education wise were considered unfair and unequal. People of color couldnt even go to the same school as white people. Although this is not the case, nowadays the students are still being separeted even even if both white and color people are attending the same school.Stereotypes are the most common misconsepting in a school that we all do this no matter what. We see someone and automatically start looking at them up and down, noticing any detail and judging without even knowing them By doing this students are already choosing who theyre going to get along with and who they arent going to talk to.Not only are the students being separated by the stereotypes of being of color or who are part of a minority group but also money and wealth wise. These students who are of color or of minority tend to received less opportuinties to succeed in school becuase due to their life and family experiences they cant afford certain things or materials. They are usually a bit tight on money. Which is why it is very unfair to them, being successful in school shouldnt be detemined on wether you can buy or cant buy something or not. Many things happen around a school in where people are still somehow being pushed to the side and not being treated equally due to their color or race or simply because they cant afford certain things.
Hey Mariela! I totally agree that schools are not yet completely equitable. I also agree with what you mentioned about the effects of segregation and how that is still affecting schools. Despite the fact that schools were desegregated in the 50s schools are still highly segregated, which I think has some deeper root issues. I have included this link if you want to look into it some more.

I also think it is important that you mentioned the unequal opportunities for children of low income families. Technology plays a huge role in school and education, especially today, and I think that kids who don't have the financial means to acquire this technology struggle more. This is completely unfair because your wealth should not determine your access to education or the quality of the education you receive. However, unfortunately this is usually the way it goes. I think some solutions to this problem would be teachers being more accommodating/not requiring as much take home work to do with technology, providing more funding to underprivileged schools, and making sure kids have access to the technology they need.
